How mobile phone batteries work

The mobile phone battery is generally a lithium ion battery. The lithium ion battery is composed of a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator and an electrolyte. The positive and negative electrodes are immersed in the electrolyte, and the lithium ions move between the positive and negative electrodes using the electrolyte as a medium to realize charge and discharge of the battery. In order to avoid short circuit between the positive and negative electrodes through the electrolyte, it is necessary to separate the positive and negative electrodes with a diaphragm.

Why does the cell phone battery explode?

In order to increase the energy density of batteries, mobile phone manufacturers use thinner diaphragms to store more power in a limited volume. The decrease in thickness increases the difficulty of production of the separator, which is liable to cause quality defects, so that the separator cannot effectively isolate the positive and negative electrodes, thereby causing short circuit and explosion of the battery.

Several safe battery recommendations:

1. Do not charge in an environment where the temperature is too high or too low (<0 °C);

2. It is best to remove the phone case when charging overnight.

3. Do not place flammable materials next to the phone when charging;

4. Do not charge in an unattended environment;

5. Try not to squeeze or beat the battery;

6. Use original phone charger or big brand charger as much as possible
