The latest research report released by Strategy Analytics pointed out that in 2018, Q3 global smartphone sales fell by 8% to 360 million units. Samsung ranked first with 20% market share, Huawei ranked second, while Xiaomi and OPPO hit record highs, ranking fourth and fifth respectively.

According to Strategy Analytics, “In 2018, global smartphone shipments fell from 393 million in Q3 in 2017 to 360 million in Q3 in 2018, down 8%. The global smartphone market has fallen for four consecutive quarters. The smartphone industry is working to address issues such as drastic reductions in carrier subsidies, longer use cycles, inventory overstock in multiple regions, and lack of commendable hardware design innovations.

Samsung’s global smartphone sales were 72.3 million units, down 13%. Samsung is losing its market in China and India, and Samsung must solve its problems in China and India as soon as possible. Huawei’s global smartphone sales in Q3 in 2017 was 39.10 million units, 51.8 million units in Q3 in 2018, an increase of 32%. Huawei’s market share of 14% remained the second largest in the world. Huawei has not entered the North American market, but its Android models are very popular in most other parts of the world, especially in Asia and Europe. ”

Apple’s iPhone is flat. In 2018, Q3, Apple’s iPhone sold 46.9 million units worldwide, with a market share of 13%. The rising price of the new iPhone XR, XS and XS Max series products has limited their sales. Although Apple’s mobile phone market share ranks third, but because of the high profit of iPhone and iPhone accessories, Apple is still the most profitable mobile phone manufacturer. Xiaomi’s smartphone sales reached 33 million units, ranking fourth with 9% market share. And a year ago its market share was only 7%. Xiaomi grew by 19% in the quarter. Due to fierce competition from Huawei in major markets such as India and China, Xiaomi’s development continues to slow down. OPPO ranked fifth with 9% of global market share, slightly higher than 8% a year ago.
